This was a quick pass on my original, single stage, tornado red paint on my 84 4000 quattro. The car has not been cleaned in a long time as it was stored outside and inside while I focused on other things. The hood is in pretty poor condition with rock chips, and thinning paint so I wanted to see what would happen with a quick pass.
I started with cleaning the hood with Griots Garage Spray On Car Wash, then moved on to using the Griots Garage Synthetic Clay Bar with Griots Garage Speed Shine. After getting rid of most everything I could, I grabbed the Torqx DA Polisher, slapped on a Hex Logic Orange Medium-Heavy Cutting Pad, and applied 4 dots of Griots Garage Complete Compound. I worked a small area on Speed 1, and then bumped it to Speed 4.
I did this twice, and was very happy overall with the results. I have some hazing on the area where the hood curves upward, and dont know if this is really dry paint, or an area thats tough for the DA Polisher to really dig into.
After using Chemical Guys Polishing Pad Cleaner, I couldnt believe what it did to the Hex Logic pad. It looked brand new. I was stunned that it removed all the paint that turned the pad to Tornado Red. Next pass will be with 3m or Meguiars compound, and a black Hex Logic pad to see if I can combat the hazing.
